One of forty five districts in Bavaria, it covers the districts of Deggendorf and Freyung-Grafenau.〔(Constituency boundaries ), bundeswahlleiter.de, accessed 16 June 2014〕 The constituency was created for the 1949 election, the first election in West Germany after World War II. With the exception of the first election in 1949, which was won by the Bavaria Party, all elections in the district have been won by the Christian Social Union (CSU).
